Located at the corner of Evergreen and Forest Streets, the New Scottish Burial Plot was purchased on behalf of the Rochester Scottish Society in 1888 by John Stewart, with funds provided by Angus MacDonald. As time passed, the existence of the plot was largely forgotten by the Scottish community. Because of inactivity, the New Scottish Burial Plot became subject to reclaim by Mount Hope Cemetery. However, in 2014, due to the diligent research of former board member Elsie Cleary, the Scottish Heritage Society assumed Trusteeship of the New Scottish Burial Plot with the right to approve burials.
If you are a first, second, or third generation Scot and a resident of Upstate New York, for a modest application fee of only $100, you can purchase a gravesite in the New Scottish Burial Plot — a savings of several thousand dollars.
In keeping with the original intent, preference is given to SHS members, but SHS membership is not required.
